Lights on. 6 nervous musicians are waiting to start their show. The
Knust venue in the heart of St. Pauli is packed with about 700 people,
not really knowing what to expect. Neither do we. But from the first
note that is blasting out of the PA the whole thing feels like starring
in a movie. The crowd is raving from the beginning til the last song,
carrying us through more than an hour of the first ever gig of this
band. When we leave the stage we are sure: starting this group was one
of our best ideas ever!
Founding an Irish folk/rebel band first came to our minds right after
the first St. Pauli-Celtic party in 2004. But it was more of a joke
then and lead to nothing. After the second party in 2005, it became
more real. We love Celtic, we like Ireland and it's music. We wanted to
play that music, spice it up with a little bit "St. Pauli" and we
wanted to be on that stage. So the six of us got together, practicing
every week in the office container of the AFM division of FC St.Pauli
and built up a repertoire.
Up to the St. Pauli-Celtic party 2006, hardly anyone knew who the
Millerntor Brigade was and what to expect. Afterwards, it was clear
that we would still have a long way to go but that St.Pauli now had a
rebel band! Another very special gig in the Jolly Roger followed,
attended among others by a couple of friends from Ireland.
After that we had to suffer a severe loss: Andi (guitar, vocals) had to
leave for Poland to work on a project and finish his studies. We all
hope that he will be able to report back as soon as he is through with
that. But any loss is always a chance, too, and we took it. With our
new permanent member Lutz we found much more than just a replacement.
So we are ready to rock on & rock all again.
